Please note that as of January 2008 Essex Street is closed due to a construction project slated to last approximately 15 months.

Alternate directions are listed below. These directions will allow you to bypass the closed portion of Essex Street.

Traveling South on Route 17

  • RT-17 SOUTH to RT 4 EAST.
  • Continue on RT-4 EAST and take the SPRING VALLEY ROAD / MAYWOOD exit. Make a LEFT at the traffic light onto SPRING VALLEY AVE.
  • Continue straight until SUMMIT AVENUE traffic light in Hackensack. Make a RIGHT on SUMMIT AVEVUE.
  • Continue straight until PASSIC STREET and make a LEFT at the traffic light on PASSIC STREET.
  • Make a RIGHT at the next traffic light onto PROPSPECT AVENUE.
  • Continue straight to 30 PROSPECT AVENUE.
  • Turn LEFT into Hackensack University Medical Center and park in the Main Parking Garage. Validated parking is complimentary with visit.

Traveling East on Essex Street from Lodi, Elmwood Park & Saddle Brook

  • From Rt. 80E – Take Exit 65 (GREEN STEERT / SOUTH HACKENSACK).
  • Follow U-Turn signs to RT-80 WEST.
  • Continue on RT-80 WEST to the POLIFY ROAD/ HACKENSACK exit.
  • Bear RIGHT at bottom of the ramp and continue straight on POLIFY ROAD until you reach the second traffic light which is ESSEX STREET.
  • Turn LEFT onto ESSEX STREET.
  • Continue to PROSPECT AVENUE and make a RIGHT at the traffic light onto PROSPECT AVENUE.
  • Turn LEFT into Hackensack University Medical Center and park in the Main Parking Garage. Validated parking is complimentary with visit.

From I-80 Going East

  • Exit number 65, toward GREEN STREET (TETERBORO / S. HACKENSACK).
  • At end of the ramp, make RIGHT onto NORTH STREET and proceed to light.
  • Turn RIGHT onto GREEN STREET and proceed to end.
  • Turn LEFT onto ESSEX STREET.
  • Turn RIGHT onto PROSPECT AVENUE.
  • Turn LEFT into Hackensack University Medical Center and park in the Main Parking Garage. Validated parking is complimentary with visit.

From I-80 Going West

  • Exit number 65, toward GREEN STREET (TETERBORO / S. HACKENSACK).
  • At end of the ramp, make LEFT onto WESLEY STREET and proceed to end.
  • Turn RIGHT onto GREEN STREET and proceed to end.
  • Turn LEFT onto ESSEX STREET.
  • Turn RIGHT onto PROSPECT AVENUE.
  • Turn LEFT into Hackensack University Medical Center and park in the Main Parking Garage. Validated parking is complimentary with visit.

From Paterson Area and West

  • Follow RT- 80 EAST. Stay in local lanes.
  • Exit number 65, toward GREEN STREET, (TETERBORO / S. HACKENSACK)
  • At end of the ramp, make a RIGHT onto NORTH STREET and proceed to light.
  • Turn RIGHT onto GREEN STREET and proceed to end.
  • Turn LEFT onto ESSEX STREET.
  • Turn RIGHT onto PROSPECT AVENUE.
  • Turn LEFT into Hackensack University Medical Center and park in the Main Parking Garage. Validated parking is complimentary with visit.

From The Garden State Parkway

  • From the Garden State Parkway, either north or south, take RT-80 EAST.
  • Follow directions above for Paterson and West.

From the Lincoln Tunnel

  • Take RT-3 WEST to RT-17 NORTH
  • Take the ESSEX ST exit & turn RIGHT onto ESSEX ST.
  • At fourth light, turn LEFT onto PROSPECT AVE.
  • Turn RIGHT into Hackensack University Medical Center and park in the Main Parking Garage. Validated parking is complimentary with visit.
